Middle School Field Trip – Apex Museum
Apex stands for African American Panoramic Experience, and that’s a really accurate description of our time last Friday at the museum. Students in middle school learned about Black history through the ages and the roots from all over the world. While some of it was tough to see, there were incredible aspects too — just learning about how many contributions have been made to the city of Atlanta, Georgia, and to our world because of the giftedness, perseverance, and creativity of so many Black Americans. At the end of our Apex visit, we learned about some of the remarkable inventions that Black Americans contributed to society. Your students may enjoy watching these videos:

Students also took part in the Sweet Auburn tour to learn about the history of Auburn Avenue and its significance in the city of Atlanta. You can see some of what they saw in part one and part two of a Sweet Auburn video and in the photos below.

Energy Transformation Experiments
Experiment #1: Our kindergarten/1st-grade students got to watch for physical changes as they took a selection of humble ingredients and “transformed” them into mini donuts! (They also shared some treats with other classes.)

We “caught” some learning going on in the sixth-grade language arts class and in 4th-grade grammar this week.

Our K-5th spent recess indoors, and they all came up with such creative ways to spend their time! Some played LEGOs, some played Wordle, and some did a kids’ yoga stretch class!
