Week 26: The “A” in STEAM

“Proficiency in the arts will be particularly important to engineers and computer scientists in emerging industries, such as themed experiences, gaming, and simulation and training.”

Discovering Area of Complex Rectangular Shapes in 4th Grade

Fourth graders got out of their seats to explore how to discover the area of complex rectangular shapes this week.

5th Graders Play Measurement Tag

Measurement tag is one of the many creative ways to practice math skills that Mrs. Cori leads for her classes.

Problem-solving Escape Room in Life Skills (6th/7th Grade)

Students in Mrs. Hyland’s Life Skills class took part in a problem-solving escape room this week.

Building Catapults and Problem-Solving with STEM-related Activities in K-2nd

For science this week, students in K-2nd grade worked together to problem solve and find solutions to two problems! First, they had to use gold coins to create a bridge that was 3 cm tall and 3 cm long so that the leprechaun could cross a river. Next, they had to use rubber bands and popsicle sticks to create a catapult to help the leprechaun return to his pot of gold!

Student Organizes Volunteer Opportunity with Hospital Art Foundation

One of our 8th graders organized a volunteer opportunity for students in 8th & 9th grade. They visited Foundation for Hospital Art to paint canvases that will be shipped to locations such as hospitals and senior centers all over the U.S. Way to go, Learnwell Owls!

8th/9th Grade Biology Students Dissect a Frog

The dissections in Biology continue this week with learning about the anatomy of a frog. Did you know that a frog’s tongue isn’t connected at the back of its mouth (like a human tongue)? Instead, it is connected at the front of its mouth so that it can snap the tongue out and back quickly to catch its prey.

K-5th Graders Learn God Guides Them Through Life’s Obstacles

In their devotional time this week, K-5th graders learned that life’s obstacles are no match for a great and mighty God. He guides them through them just as students guided their peers through the devotional obstacle course.

Playground Painting

Students in multiple grades took their art outside this week — to paint outside on the playground together.

K/1st & 6th/7th Grade Buddies Play Teamwork Games

This week, Learnwell buddies “teamed” up to learn about teamwork through games.

K/1 Students Get a Surprise Visit from a Leprechaun

Kindergarteners and 1st graders were surprised to find that a leprechaun visited their classrooms over the weekend! He left quite the mess…

6th/7th Graders Read Outside

Sixth and seventh graders read novels outside this week to take advantage of the sunshine!

3rd-5th Graders Set Up Terrariums for Science

Students in mid- to upper elementary school took to the earth this week in science, setting up terrariums and presenting biome projects.

3rd Graders Present Procedural Text Projects

Students in Mrs. Allison’s class learned about how-to writing this week, and they sent in videos of their procedural projects where they taught how to do specific tasks: everything from dog training to baking a cake and how to make pigs in a blanket or an omelette.

Middle and High Schoolers Enjoy Time Together at Lunch

Enjoying time together is a high priority of middle and high school students.

Art Showcase Preview (More Showcase Photos Next Week)

Here is a brief preview of the artists and performers getting ready for the Arts Showcase today! We will post the entire gallery next week. Stay tuned…
