Week 21: Share the Love

Share the Love

This week, students had the opportunity to “share the love” of Christ by giving each other Valentine’s notes, spending time together basking in the sunshine (finally a hint of spring), and enjoying an ice cream social together. Oh! And they walked on eggs — without cracking a single one — barefoot (sharing the love of eggs?!).

Where did the term “walking on eggshells” come from?

Our K-5th graders got to literally walk barefoot on eggshells this week for a special devotional time. Even Mrs. Jenny got in on the fun! First, “walking on eggshells” is an idiom — which fourth-graders have been studying and learning about — a phrase that has a figurative meaning, not easily deduced from its literal meaning. Second, there is no conclusive evidence about the origin of this idiom. Many sources say it was first used in the 1800s, but most disagree on how it came to be in use. Third, Mrs. Cori has kicked off a two-week devotional series for the K-5 students all about what kind of king Jesus is.

“After making hypotheses and discussing what we would expect to happen, nearly everyone agreed that our egg-walking experience was rather unexpected in all the best ways. This was the kick-off for our 2-week mini-series in which we will consider the fact that Jesus is our King and explore what kind of King Jesus is. Tuesday we got to discuss how Jesus is an unexpected and surprising King because though He is strong and majestic as we would expect a king to be, He is also humble and sacrificial. In the end, we determined Jesus is better than any king we could have expected,” she said.

Basking in the Sun

Our middle school students love to hang out in the sunshine, and who can blame them?! We can’t wait until spring.

Valentine’s Exchanges and Socials

Ice cream + toppings + encouraging notes: We cannot get enough. Enjoy these sweet photos from Thursday’s early Valentine’s Day celebrations. Don’t miss the elementary school video (stuffing treat bags) and the middle school adjective game. The students had a blast today, and we enjoyed hearing all the laughter and fun in the halls.
