Buddies Are Back!

Our Buddies program is back by popular demand (the sixth and seventh graders insisted!). These middle school students really enjoy pairing up with students in kindergarten and first grade to teach new concepts, practice old ones, and just be a good friend to their younger peers. This week, our K//1 students found out who their Buddies are for the 2023-2024 school year.

Math Practice in 5th & 6th

Our 5th graders worked hard in math this week, as did our 6th graders, who are learning about simplification and factoring.

4th Graders Make Literature Connections

Fourth graders are making connections in literature through the classroom genre board and relating to fictional characters.

Playground Fun in K-5

Playground time is full of laughs and cooperative play.

Mimic the Masters Art Elective Kicks Off

Our Tuesday after-school art elective started this week, and students learned about paintings by Vincent van Gogh.

8th Graders Learn about Memory and Play Jeopardy in Life Skills

This week, students in 8th grade learned about the differences between working memory and long-term memory by performing mini skits, and then they had a chance to review what they’ve learned about the brain and how we learn through a Jeopardy game.

2nd-5th Grade Students Act Out History

Learning about settlements and colonists is fun when you get to be part of the history! Many of our second, third, fourth and fifth graders got to act out roles related to what they’re learning this week in history.

8th and 9th Graders Learn about Enzymes

Our 8th/9th grade biology students did an experiment this week where they hypothesized which factors speed up enzyme function.

6th/7th Graders Build Bridges in History

Sixth and seventh graders built bridges in history this week.

K-5 Students Build Historical Settlements

Reconstructing Jamestown in Virginia is hard work. These students did a fabulous job!

2nd/3rd Graders Learn to Graph with Apples

Mrs. Allison’s class teamed up with Mrs. Jessica’s class to learn graphing skills. All the students tried different varieties of apples and voted on their favorite one. They graphed it to show the class favorite: Golden Delicious.

AFT for 6th-9th Graders Begins with a Bang

AFT (n.): near, toward, or in the stern — back — of a ship

We named it AFT because it’s at the back of the day and it’s short for “afternoon.” This monthly hangout time is set aside for our middle school students (and 9th graders this year) to have after-school snacks, run around outside, and play games. It runs October through May, and this first AFT of the school year began with a loud and lively game.
