Week 5: Hands-On and How-To’s

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.

~ Pablo Picasso

This week, students dove deep into the learning waters by getting hands-on with projects, display boards, and experiments. You can enjoy their how-to learning processes below.

Spending Rewards and Show and Tell in First Grade

Our first graders get pom-pom rewards for all sorts of kind and good behavior. So what’s a first-grader to spend his collection on?

  • Show and Tell!
  • Or sitting in the teacher’s chair!

Great job, first graders. We hope you’re proud of yourselves.

8th & 9th Graders Examine Blood Cells in Biology

This week, our biology students were able to use a microscope to see what blood cells look like.

K-5 Students Act Out Gideon’s Story in Devotional Time

Students had fun while Mrs. Cori narrated Gideon’s big moment in Scripture. They acted out what he did and said, and the army that he led.

K-5th Grade Explores Newton’s Third Law of Motion

After learning that every action has an opposite reaction, students got hands-on with Newton’s third law of motion.

Main Event’s Play Academy Field Trip

Many of our K-5 students and their families attending the Main Event Play Academy field trip to learn about the science behind bowling strikes.

Ninth Graders Write and Display Mission Statements in Civics

To help them zero in on this year’s goals, civics students wrote and displayed mission statements in Mrs. Castro’s class. These are phenomenal!

5th Graders Find Literary Themes in Music and 4th/5th Graders “Buddy” Up to Learn

Our fifth graders are learning to identify literary themes in popular music, and  our fourth graders are learning about place value. All of the 4th and 5th graders benefit from the learning buddy in their classroom. No, really, his name is Buddy. Can you spot him?

Students Enjoy Outdoor Lunch and Recess

Some of our students enjoyed treats to celebrate a student’s birthday at an outdoor lunch this week, and others enjoyed hunting for their personalized rocks in the garden. Still others enjoyed recess gymnastics outside since the weather is cooling (a little).

K-5 Students Learn How to Make Cars with Axels in Science

Some of our older students were given very little instruction so that they could team up, problem-solve, and be creative! Younger students took the step-by-step approach with lots of guidance from teachers to construct their cars.

Our Technology & Engineering Expo Participants Learned about Project Planning

Last week, we hosted our second REACH Workshop. The third one, which is open to all students, is Sept. 28th. Students learned about valuable planning skills to scale their projects according to a doable timeline.

Spanish Elective Students Get to “Do Lunch” at their After-School Cafe

Our Spanish elective is going strong; students learned about all things food this week.
