Week 33: Winning at Learning

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” — Henry Ford

Feliz Cumpleanos (Happy Birthday in Spanish) in 2nd Grade

Two of our second-graders celebrated birthdays this week since they have summer birthdates. Enjoy hearing them sing in Spanish!

Third Graders Make Oreo Fractions and Read “Joon and the Jade Bracelet”

Science Bowl

This week’s Science Bowl was a big hit! Students loved getting to answer questions using Chromebooks.

K/1st Students Construct Arches National Park While Studying Utah and Record Videos in the Storylab

The kindergarteners and first-graders had a chance to learn about Arches National Park and design their own arches. They also took over the Storylab this week to record videos about what they learned this year and their summer plans.

6th and 7th Graders Tested Catapults and Made Sandwiches for Homeless People

Our 6th and 7th graders made their own catapults this week in science and then got to test them to see which one catapulted an object the farthest. Then, on Thursday, they made sandwiches for The Sandwich Project’s program for homeless communities.

Innovation Expo Winners

Congratulations to all of the Innovation Expo teams! Here are the top three teams.

T-Shirt Design Winner Is…

Congratulations to the student who designed this t-shirt… the winner of the Learnwell spiritwear design competition!

Show-and-Share, Text Structure Escape Rooms, and Messy Spelling in 4th and 5th Grade

Our 4th and 5th graders got to meet Rooney, a special pup in the lives of two students at Learnwell, because one of those students purchased a Show-and-Share opportunity with the class cash he saved up this semester. (We think all the students would say they benefited from his savvy saving skills.) Students in 5th grade took part in messy spelling activities and completed an escape room activity to review what they’ve learned about text structures.

Student Ambassador Breakfast

Our kickoff of the Student Ambassador program this week was encouraging. After breakfast, students were paired with other students whom they didn’t know well and were in mixed-grade groups to mimic what it’s like for a new student to come to Learnwell. The breakfast ended with a positive-word activity where every student had the chance to write something encouraging about all of the other ambassadors. We are confident that this group will lead our prospective and new students well!
