Week 23: LEAPING Back into School

As friends lept back into school on this Leap Year Week, we’re reminded of this quote from Charlotte’s Web:

“‘Why did you do all this for me?’ he asked. ‘I don’t deserve it. I’ve never done anything for you.’ ‘You have been my friend,’ replied Charlotte. ‘That in itself is a tremendous thing.’” —Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White

K/1 & 6th/7th Grade Buddies Draw History Together

This week, our K/1st and 6th and 7th grade buddies learned about Abraham Lincoln while drawing portraits of him.

Elementary Students Review God’s Promises

K-5th graders reviewed the promises of God they’ve learned so far by writing their names on the back of each promise — so they’ll remember that God’s promises are to them.

8th Graders Work on Pauline Letter Projects

In Life Skills and Discipleship, 8th-grade students learned about Paul’s letters, and this week they’re began putting together a skit or presentation about what they’ve learned.

First Graders Study Colonial Transportation and Ways of Life

First-grade students spent time trying to write with quill pens and building a colonial boat out of foil and popsicle sticks as they continue exploring the colonial U.S. in social studies.

K-2nd Graders Learn About Colonial Houses

As they continue the study of colonial times during U.S. history, our kindergarteners through second-graders crafted colonial-style houses this week.

K-5th Graders LEAP into a Reading Challenge with a Special Visitor

A special guest, Mrs. Amy Szvetecz, Youth Services Supervisor for the Post Road Library, talked with kindergarten through fifth grade on Leap Day as a reading challenge kicked off. She spoke about what kinds of things you can do and check out at the library, and students got started right away on the reading challenge.

2nd Graders Host a Realistic Fiction Publishing Party

Our second-grade class just finished writing realistic fiction stories, so they held a publishing party together. Way to go, students!

8th Grade Civil Rights Presentations

To commemorate Black History Month, our 8th-graders gave presentations about civil rights activists to students in K-5th grade.

Get-to-Know-You Games in 6th/7th Grade Discipleship

Mrs. Hyland used getting-to-know-you games, travel edition, to help students in 6th and 7th grade understand how far-reaching God’s love is. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:11-12).

Lunch with Friends in Middle School

Middle school friends enjoy hanging out, playing games, and chatting with teachers during outdoor lunch.

REACH Arts-Focused Workshop

The latest REACH workshop focused on visual art as a precursor to the upcoming Arts Showcase on Mar. 21st. (Details are in both parent and student newsletters this week and next.) Students do NOT need to have participated in this week’s workshop in order to sign up for the Arts Showcase. The showcase is a perennial favorite, and we hope to see all Learnwell artists sign up!
