Week 3: Growing in Grace

“I am not what I might be, I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I wish to be, I am not what I hope to be. But I thank God I am not what I once was, and I can say with the great apostle, ‘By the grace of God I am what I am.’”

K-5 Students Learn about God’s Grace by Acting Out the Story of Job

In Tuesday’s devotional time, our K-5 students enjoyed acting out key moments of Job’s story as they learned about God’s grace.

See How Our Garden Grows Students Make (& Eat) Pesto!

A benefit of the Learnwell school garden is that our students learn real-world skills by doing something fun! And the fresh air is so good for them. This week, they harvested the last of the basil crop and learned how to measure, estimate, evaluate, and even use sensory language to describe the basil that they used to make pesto. The entire school got in on the eating part, and some even tried “green stuff” for the first time! (Thanks to our parent volunteers who made it happen so efficiently.)

K-5 Learning Lab: Motion, Speed, Acceleration and Force

Using Marbles and Incline Planes

Our K-5 students learned about force through marble art and building incline planes to test them out this week.

6th & 7th Graders Study Isaiah in Discipleship

Students in sixth and seventh grade are learning about God’s grace by His provision of forgiveness from our sin in their discipleship class. They’re working through Isaiah and read Romans 3:23 this week.

8th & 9th Grade Biology Students Conduct a Lab Experiment

Biology students tested the freezing points of varying percentages of saltwater and sugar water in Mrs. Owens’ lab this week. Ask them what their findings were.

K-5 Practices Presentation Skills in “Newton’s Laws” Groups

Starting in kindergarten, Learnwell students get accustomed to making public presenatations. To ease them public speaking, teachers designed groups around Newton’s Laws for our K-5 students. Each prepared a presentation about Newton’s Laws and then presented to a small group of students. They did so well!

REACH Workshop #1: Technology & Engineering

Our informational session about the REACH Tech & Engineering Expo gave students a sneak peek of what participating in the Tech & Engineering Expo at Learnwell will involve. It takes place Nov. 9th, and you can get all the details in your Week 3 newsletter from Learnwell.

  • There are a whopping 15 categories that students can choose from for the competition, and they don’t have to present their creation in front of a crowd on Nov. 9th.
  • Students will have coaches here at school during each workshop to help them plan and execute their designs.
  • Everything from 3-D modeling and audio engineering to animation, film production, and robotics — plus so much more — will be options. Students can also work in pairs to create something.
  • The information meeting was recorded for anyone who wants to participate but couldn’t attend.
  • Check with Mrs. Cori and stay tuned to your weekly newsletters for all the details as the workshops move forward.

One-Act Play Rehearsal for 7th-9th Graders

Our One-Act Play production kicked off today; students will be rehearsing once a week after school during September and twice a week after school in October as the competition gets closer. Here they are doing a few warmups to get their acting muscles ready.

7th Graders Participate in a Math Scavenger Hunt

Mrs. Green’s 7th-grade class took part in a fun around-the-room scavenger hunt this week to reinforce what they are learning in math.

8th/9th Graders Learn about Hearing and Experiencing God

In 8th grade discipleship this week, students worked through Bible verses about hearing God from the books of Matthew and Luke. The ninth graders learned about how Peter had transformational knowledge about himself through his relationship with Jesus. Students ate oranges to illustrate all the ways we can experience God.

1st Graders Enjoy Small Group Reading Centers with Whisper Phones

Learning to read is much more fun when you get to practice on a whisper phone!
