Spirit Week (Hat/Crazy Hair Day & LW Spiritwear Day)

For spring Spirit Week, our students were ENTHUSIASTIC about celebrating. They pulled out the most creative headdresses and hairdos we’ve seen yet. And of course, we loved seeing all the school spirit with everyone dressed in blue or in Learnwell shirts.

Resurrection Rolls and Acts 3

After reading about the man who was healed in Acts 3, students participated in making Resurrection Rolls where “the stone” is rolled away and “the tomb” is empty.

Second Grade Mystery Reader & Spring Garden

The second grade class hosted a Mystery Reader this week, and they checked on our Learnwell garden. Vegetables are growing!

K/1 Buddies Learn How to Tie Shoes and Play a Noun Game

Our 6th-7th grade buddies helped the kindergarteners learn how to tie their shoes and facilitated a fun game to help the first graders learn about nouns.

K-5th Graders Listen to a Special Guest Speaker

For our STEAM unit, the elementary school hosted a special guest, Lashan Binion, who shared how her career as a commercial interior designer uses science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills all in one. The students asked terrific questions; we think there might be a budding designer (or two) in our midst. Binion shared photos of a space she and her team designed for Emory University where university students could enjoy downtime with indoor swings, cornhole, and even a Lego wall. Learnwell students also learned that even large corporate teams use budgeting and computation skills to make sure they don’t go over the allotted amount for a project. Binion shared, too, that she frequently learns from others about new technology and engineering as these fields develop, and that continuing education is a significant part of any design career.

4th Grade Brain Teasers and Fractions

Our 4th graders puzzled over a fractions pyramid brain teaser.

5th Grade Show-and-Share (aka A Chicken Comes to School)

One of our 5th-grade students saved up her class cash reward money to host her chicken as a Show-and-Share for the rest of her class. We hear that Raven the chicken enjoyed her first day of school.
