Week 11: Service and Learning

K-5 Students Write Letters to Hospital Heroes

On Tuesday this week, our K-5 students spent their morning devotional time coloring up a storm, writing notes to thank those at Kennestone Hospital who work with the COVID-19 patients. These sweet notes will be delivered to the COVID unit on Nov. 5.

7th Grade & The Giver

Our 7th-grade students are hard at work reading Lois Lowry’s 1993 dystopian novel The Giver as a class. It’s bringing up excellent opportunities for conversation.

Spelling & Sports & Studying Nations

Mrs. Cori’s students practiced their sports skills, spelling words, and learned about England and some of the differences between how Americans and the British speak. Click the linked words to see them in action!

Day of Service Details – Nov. 12 at 10 a.m.

When: Friday, November 12, 2021 10-11:30 a.m.
Where: Learnwell North Georgia
1360 Bluegrass Lakes Pkwy., Alpharetta, GA 30004
(Please arrive by 10:15 if at all possible to honor our special guest.)

What: Through our partnerships with Act Together Ministries and Foster Care Support Foundation, we will be supporting foster children in TWO ways:

First, we will be decorating drop boxes for our local community to “drop” their donations in for foster children who are sponsored through Act Together Ministries. Students will help assemble, wrap, and decorate the boxes so that sponsorship businesses and families can leave their sponsorship gifts in conveniently-located drop boxes.

Second, we will be putting the finishing touches on cozy blankets that will be donated to foster families who are supported by Foster Care Support Foundation. This is a foundation that provides necessary clothing, shoes, blankets, toys, etc. to local foster families when they have a child placed in their care. Often, these children come with little to no belongings – so we hope that a warm blanket will remind them of God’s love and provision.

Who: We will also be hosting a special guest – a foster parent who can educate our students on some of the joys of serving children in foster care.

Cost: We ask all families to bring a $10 donation to help with the cost of the supplies. You can bring this with you to the event. Friends who want to serve with you are welcome. Thank you! Feel free to RSVP here, and friends are welcome!

Stone Soup

Our K-3rd grade students got to listen to a story — Stone Soup — and participate in the making of real stone soup. They blessed Learnwell’s administrative staff by providing this delicious, hot soup for lunch on a cold, rainy day; it was amazing!
