Week 10: Eating school subjects + What is service?

At every grade level this week, students enjoyed various foods in relation to subjects like science, reading, and math. Check it out below. And don’t forget to scroll to the bottom where you’ll see some sweet answers to the question: What does it mean to serve?

Junk Food Science

In science this week, students learned about how various rock formations occur. Then they got to replicate those formations using all sorts of junk food. (Oh, to be a kid again!)

Medieval Snacks & Candy Math

To go along with reading a story that was set during Medieval times, students in Mrs. Cori’s classroom had the chance to help make a snack called Pokerounce (toast with spiced honey and almonds). They also got to do some math with candy corns!

“Dirt” Science for Elementary School

Mrs. Jenny taught our K-5th Grade about soil layers using Oreo “dirt” and fun additions like gummy worms.

Apple Math & Pumpkin Guts for 2nd/3rd Grade

Students in the second- and third-grade class got to chart apples for math and “gut” a pumpkin to enjoy the seeds this week!

(It was a fun food week for all.)

Sixth/Seventh Grade Scavenger Hunt

Our middle school students got to participate in a scavenger hunt science review. They searched the library for hidden clues to answer all sorts of rock-related questions.

What It Means to Serve

Elementary school students explored the meaning of service in this sweet video as they anticipate two upcoming service opportunities:

  1. Thursday, Nov. 4: Sending in cards and meal components for hospital heroes caring for COVID-19 patients
  2. Friday, Nov. 12: Learnwell’s Day of Service focused on comforting/providing for foster care children
