6th & 7th Grade Buddies Helping K/1 Students with Math Games

This week, our Buddies Program kicked off for the second semester. Students in sixth and seventh grade are matched up with students in kindergarten and first grade to help with reinforcing skills they’re learning in class. This Tuesday, they played math games together.

Middle School Friends Eating Lunch Together

It’s so good to be back together after a 3-week Christmas break! Here, middle school friends enjoy lunch together.

Second Graders Learning About Alphabetical Order

When you can combine spelling words and ABC order — and stand up and move a little while you’re at it — why not?! Our second graders are practicing putting their spelling words in alphabetical order.

First Graders Learning and Playing

Our first graders have been B-U-S-Y this week! They’ve practiced punctuating dates by using dice for the comma, practiced writing Chinese characters in history, learned spelling patterns by using dry erase boards in groups, and they joined with kindergarten for a rainy-day indoor recess.

Defining Faithfulness in K-5 Devotional Time

In devotions last Thursday, our K-5 students took turns defining the word “faitfhulness” together as they discussed with teachers about how God is faithful.

After-School Art Elective: Mimic the Masters Season 2

Our winter/spring electives kicked off this week with season two of Mimic the Masters, an art elective led by Mrs. Michelle Magana.

4th & 5th: Measuring, Composting, Peer Reviewing and Recess/Lunch Outside

Fourth graders are learning about customary systems of measuring, and the fourth and fifth graders learned about composting from Mrs. Hillary, who leads students in learning about and working in the school garden. In fact, our fourth and fifth graders have accepted a composting challenge! (See below for details.) Other activities included peer reviewing their children’s book projects and joining sixth graders for recess and lunch outside.

Compost Challenge Details – 4th & 5th Grade

From Mrs. Hillary:

We set up a compost bin in the cafeteria and they are collecting compost from their school lunch scraps each day (encouraging them to eat lots of fruits and veggies!) and then one of the student’s weighs it and is putting it in our compost tumbler near the air conditioners.

They have a goal of 8lbs before winter break and are already at 3.5lbs collected diverting it from landfills! If they get there, they will have a popcorn party!

The compost will “cook” for several weeks after collection and then we will use it to fertilize our spring crops.
