Week 33: Libraries, Science, and Ponds, Oh My!

Students (and parents), you are doing so well at this time of year when it seems that summer can’t get here quickly enough. Hang in there — one week to go!

In this issue:

  • Middle School Pond Field Trip
  • Library Visitor and Summer Programs
  • Elementary School Devotions and Recess Fun
  • Science Bowl
  • Back-to-School Readiness Checklist for Returning Families

Middle School Pond Field Trip

This week, our middle school students got to experience a long lunch break. So what did they do? They went on a walking field trip with Mrs. Hyland to visit the ducks at our nearby pond!

Library Visitor and Summer Programs

On Tuesday, our students heard about some pretty fun Forsyth County Library System programming that takes place this summer. Mrs. Amy Szvetecz from the Post Road Library came to share about activities and prizes that students can win all summer long — beginning May 25th. The students heard about penguins, sharks, gift cards, magicians, middle-school writing prizes, author visits, and so much more. Parents, your child should have brought home a flyer with all the fun details! But we know these things sometimes get lost. Just let us know in morning or afternoon carpool if you need a new one.

Don’t live in Forsyth County? That’s okay! Because your child attends a Forsyth County school, he or she can participate in all the programs. Just let us know if you are interested; we will give you a letter that notifies the library of your child’s Forsyth County school attendance, and your child be allowed to participate in all the summer fun. You can email Brooke.Turbyfill@LearnwellCollective.org if you would  live outside Forsyth County and need a letter for the librarian.

Elementary School Devotions and Recess Fun

We caught the “tail end” of a 4th grader’s “Show-and-Share” (complete with puppy) and some intense pretend games (think “I Survived” series) happening at recess. And for devotions, Mrs. Cori led the elementary school in learning about David and Goliath (complete with Goliath).

Science Bowl

Just like with social studies, our students reviewed all they learned this year in science. And they took part in the end-of-year science bowl to show what they could remember.
