“A theory not only explains the world we see; it lets us imagine other worlds and, even more significantly, lets us act to create those worlds. Developing everyday theories, like scientific theories, has allowed human beings to change the world.” ~ Alison Gopnik, American professor
Planting Potatoes
Fourth graders planted potatoes last week, and in the process, they learned about the variations in potato types and their nutrients. They also made connections between the fourth and fifth-grade compost contest last fall and the compost soil used for planting the potatoes.

Studying States
Our K-5th graders have been learning about the 50 states in social studies, and several parents came to school last week to share where they’ve visited: California and Oregon. We’re always grateful when parents want to contribute their experiences to enrich what students learn in the classroom.

7th Graders Listen, Look, Feel, and Smell Sensory Language
For one of their writing exercises, our 7th graders had class outside. They listened and paid attention to the world around them to describe it using their senses. They’re learning how to write descriptively to immerse their readers in the stories and articles they write.

Students Actively Celebrate 100th Day of School
Students enjoyed celebrating the 100th day of school in very active ways: by decorating a shirt with 100 items, dressing as a centenarian, bringing 100 tiny snacks in with them, and doing a 100th-day style workout with 7th grade Buddies.

5th-6th Grade Book Buddies Continue Reading Practice
While fifth graders understand the how-to of reading at this stage, the practice they receive in reading aloud to their 6th-grade book buddies helps them expand their vocabulary and comprehend more of what they read, and the 6th graders enhance their listening skills.

Students, Teachers & Staff Honor World Down Syndrome Day

One of our students, who has Down Syndrome, brought treats for everyone, and some teachers read books about Down Syndrome to help their students learn curiosity, empathy, and kindness.

Students in our Fun Friday Electives program continue their exploration of robotics and art.

K-5 Discipleship Teaches God Remembers Small Details
The elementary school students played a memory game this week as an object lesson to learn that God remembers even the tiniest details, people and prayers. They gathered in groups, were given a timed opportunity to examine a large plastic bag sealed with small toys and trinkets inside, and then the groups were asked to hand back their bags. Then, group members had to try and remember and record what was in their bags. Mrs. Cori shared that God doesn’t have trouble remembering when we ask Him for help, needs, wants and even when we forget, He remembers us.
