Week 25: Reading and Writing

“Writing and reading decrease our sense of isolation. They deepen and widen and expand our sense of life: They feed the soul.” ~ Anne Lamott, author of “Bird by Bird”

Savannah Trip

Some of our 8th-graders traveled to Savannah for a long weekend to explore historical landmarks and their significance. This is an annual trip that many of our students look forward to as it reflects the hard work they’ve put into learning about Georgia history all year.

Learning from New Testament Letters

In discipleship, the 8th graders have been working on a project based on letters from the New Testament.

First Graders Enjoy Popcorn and Flashlight Reading

The first grade class enjoyed the popcorn reward for meeting their class reading goals last month, and they ate while reading in the dark with flashlights.

Second Graders Take Delight in Reading

These students were excited to keep the reading fun alive, even after the Read-A-Thon ended! (Popcorn and candy toppings help, too.)

Popcorn and Poetry in 4th Grade

Continuing to celebrate achieving the class-wide reading goal, Mrs. Jessica’s fourth graders enjoyed their popcorn while reading poetry.

Third Graders Eager to Test Out the Snack Cart

Mrs. Allison’s third graders were excited about the elementary school-wide reading reward of choosing from a snack cart throughout the day last Thursday.

Buddies Play Outside Together

Our K/1st and seventh-grade Buddies enjoyed a game of Blob Tag last week to burn off some energy, while others worked on reading together.

Seventh Graders Work Hard as News Journalists

In their “Jump In” curriculum, seventh graders have been hard at work learning how to write news articles in the inverted pyramid style.

Dental Town Hygienist Visited K-5th Graders

A hygienist from Dental Town in Milton visited the elementary school recently to share what a dental career involves and how to care for your teeth and gums.

Learning from David’s Successes & Failures in the Bible

Students in sixth and seventh grade have been retelling stories from David’s life as they examined his successes and failures in discipleship.

5th Graders Learn about Soil by Composting, Planting and (Soon!) Harvesting Snap Peas

Students in Mrs. Cori’s class spent time in the garden, learning the appropriate depth to plant sugar snap pea seeds, how to use compost and check the soil, and what the seeds need to germinate and produce a spring harvest. (Hint: They need more than just water and healthy soil; they need a short soak to germinate!)
