“We do not learn from experience… we learn from reflecting on experience.”
— John Dewey
Learnwell students receive a balanced education through project-based learning, classroom instruction, hands-on learning through the school garden and science labs, coaching and student leadership in the StoryLab, explorative learning on field trips, and spiritual and self-management principles through life skills, discipleship and career mentoring.
This week’s photos reflect a variety of learning modules, from classroom instruction to field trips. We’re so grateful for the teacher-parent partnerships that empower students to take on more ownership of their education as they grow.
Small-Group Instruction in Math
Because class sizes are smaller, we love that students get small-group and individualized instruction each week. Here are some of our teachers and students in kindergarten, second, third, fifth grade, and middle school as they explore mathematic principles.

Reading for Fun
Schools and libraries report that middle and high school students are reading less for enjoyment, but not Learnwell students! Mrs. Hyland’s reading challenges keep 6th and 7th graders looking forward to reading novels unrelated to school assignments. They’re reading, reflecting on what they read, and sharing their reviews with others. Their reward? A love of reading! (And a Chick-fil-A lunch helps too.)

8th Grade Georgia History Students Visit Georgia Capitol
The eighth graders visited the Georgia Capitol on the first day of the legislative session, listening to the chaplain open the session. They also witnessed the election of the Georgia Speaker of the House (Jon Burns) and heard his opening speech.

Kindergarten through Seventh Grade Heads to Atl History Center
The K-7 students had the opportunity to attend special programming at the Atlanta History Center last week. Grades K-3 had a hands-on outdoor lesson on what Georgia Farm life was like in the 1850s while grades 4-7 learned more about the Civil War. To view the photos, click on the gallery below.
College Visits in High School: Georgia College & State University
Learnwell high school students and their families traveled to Milledgeville, GA, last week to visit GCSU, tour the campus, and learn what a mid-sized university campus is like. With a campus of just over 6,000 undergraduates, our high school students could review their programs of study and learn about the surrounding community. The visit was part of our high school curriculum, where students can go on optional college tours starting in ninth grade to help them develop a framework for what is possible after they graduate.

Sixth Graders Presented Christmas Bazaar Donation to Furkids Representative
Just before Christmas, students in sixth and seventh grade took part in a Christmas Bazaar, where they sold handmade goods to students and teachers to raise money for charity. The sixth graders were able to present a check for over $450 to Furkids, Inc., representative Katie Spring recently. Furkids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity that operates the largest cage-free, no-kill shelter in the Southeast.

Second Graders Host Non-Realistic Fiction Publishing Party
Second graders read their non-realistic fiction stories aloud at their recent publishing party and set up a spelling “neighborhood” for a fun way to take their spelling test. What creativity!

K-3rd Graders Learn About New York
During their social studies unit recently, our kindergarten, first, second and third graders learned from some volunteer parents who taught about New York. They brought yummy apples and pencils from “The Big Apple” for students to enjoy.
