Week 4: Engaged in the Process

“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.” ~ Pablo Picasso

4th Grade Adventures in Learning

Fourth graders learned through song, craft, art, and movement this week. Of course, in the midst of that, they picked up math, grammar, writing, science and character, too!

Students in 4th grade learned about adjectives by trying to describe penguins creatively since they’ve been reading “Mr. Popper’s Penguins.” They learned a new song to help them remember the difference between adjectives and adverbs, and they discovered math concepts can be applied to games like Slap Jack.

Students sing with Ms. Robertson about how to differentiate between adjectives and adverbs.

While learning about the character trait of patience, students got to practice it as they waited for their glue abstract art to dry so they could paint it two days later! What a marvelous display of abstract art.

Students in 4th grade also celebrated a classmate’s birthday with cupcakes for the whole crew!

Kindergarten & 1st Graders Focus on Fossils

Kindergarten and first graders dove deeply into how fossils form over time, and first graders learned all about number lines.

5th Graders Play a Long Division Game, Find a Cozy Spot to Write & Celebrate a Birthday

Cozy writing is one of Mrs. Cori’s weekly rhythms, and it’s always a fan favorite in her 5th grade class. Students also got to play a long division game and celebrate a classmate’s birthday with special visitors.

8th Grade Life Skills Class Tries New Things

Students in 8th grade Life Skills brought in something that is hard for them or something they don’t know much about this week, so they could use the Pomodoro Method and apply focused study time to learning that skill. Along the way, they talked about being flexible and willing to try new things or things they think will be too difficult.

Teacher Roundup

Our teachers are diligently preparing young minds to learn each week, partnering with every family to coach, empower, and grow our students’ knowledge and depth. Thank you, teachers, for all you do!

Elementary Devotions in Creative Ways

This week’s devotionals were creative and engaging for our K-5th graders. Whether using Möbius strips, acting out the story of Moses and the burning bush or learning that God has no beginning or end, elementary students are exposed to the truth in fun, impactful ways.

Math Review Helps Students Gain Confidence in Their Skills

Students in middle school math classes reviewed through games and spiral quizzes to solidify what they’d learned.

K-5th Learn About Weathering, Erosion, and Slow Land Changes

They could just read about these in a book, but it’s so much more fun to play with candy, marbles, cardboard tubes and sand, don’t you think? Elementary school students learned about how weathering, erosion and slow land changes impact the earth around us in unique science lessons this week.

Dog Days of Summer

Some of our families took to Facebook on National Dog Day this week to post photos of their dogs (and one bunny!) helping their people learn on at-home days. Furry friends make everything better. What a perk of hybrid school!

Drama Auditions Started This Week

Our 7th-10th graders were eligible to audition for Learnwell’s theater production this week. Mrs. Jennifer Hammond led the way as students turned their nervous energy into creative showmanship. We’re proud of everyone who auditioned – it takes great courage!
